Brahmi (ब्राह्मी-मण्डूकपर्णी) Introduction:

In each and every aspect of life, to get success, it is very essential to be mentally fit and healthy. Brahmi is a divine herb that plays a significant role to increase the mental power. It is a healthy tonic for the mind used to increase concentration power in children and improve the memory strength. It is named as Brahmi due to having a property "BUDDHIVARDHAK". Due to continuous mental work,s stress, and pressure, one’s mental efficiency degrades, Brahmi usage gives incredible results for them.

There is another kind of Brahmi known as Becopa aka somvalli, sarasvati, brahmi-jalneem (ब्राह्मी-जलनीम) which also occupy the "BUDDHIVARDHAK" property. Both differ in shape and size. Brahmi (mandookparni) is an extremely soft creeper that seemed like a frog, hence named as mandookparni. It is found at reservoirs of the whole of India.

Externally Brahmi is a land-spreading, long, and low fragrant creeper with small roots. leaves are circular, 1-6 cm diameter in size, rough from both sides, and lightly aromatic. The floral period is from April to June.

Brahmi (ब्राह्मी) Benefits and Usage

  1. Brahmi‘s magical benefits for mental disease: In today's lifestyle full of mental pressures such as constant thinking, mental fatigue, over-worrying, and stress, as a result, we take seductive drugs. overlong we feel less mental clarity, mandukparni boost up mental confusion and stress, increase concentration, revitalize neurons, and oxygenates the brain.
    • Memory improvement: make 3-gram Brahmi powder, 3 gm shankhpushpi equal amount of almond, and one-fourth part black pepper powder. Take one mixture daily in the morning with milk or water to increase memory power. 
    • Insanity (Unmada): prepare a mixture of 3 grams of Brahmi, 3 gm shankhpushpi, 2 crushed black pepper, 3 almonds and 25 grams of rock sugar (Mishri), blend it into the water, strain this mixture, add ice if you want Drinking this delicious mixture daily in morning-evening, helps in reducing insanity. 
    • Retention Deterioration (Apasmara): according to Ayurveda, Brahmi is used to promote intellectual ability and perception power of retention ability. Make a paste of 3 gm fresh herb with a small quantity of cow milk cream, This paste is advised to eat with milk empty stomach early morning.
    • Anxiety: mandukparni(Brahmi) exerts anxiolytic action due to the presence of triterpenoids in it. It improves mental functions and alleviates anxiety. Make a powder of Brahmi, shankhpushpi, Mukta pishti, jatamansi, gives promising result. 
  2. Brahmi benefits for eye disorder: pouring 2-3 drops of  Brahmi leaves juice into eyes. It will increase the eyesight.
  3. Brahmi benefits for throat: Brahmi is reputed to improve the power of speech, and poetic imagination soak equal amount of Brahmi, rudraksha, shankhpushpi with 5 times water, strain. Drinking this mixture will help to make the voice clear.
  4. Brahmi for Urinary disease: Brahmi has diuretic properties and increases the passing of urine. taking two spoon juice of Brahmi with one spoon rock sugar (mishri) with buttermilk or yogurt, improves slow urination and alleviates burning sensation while urination.

    • Aamvata: Applying the paste of Brahmi leaves over infected area, helps in aamvata.

    • Acne Removal and scars: Applying juice of Brahmi, cures acne and local application of brahmi paste prevents scars
    • Chicken Pox: Brahmi helps in chickenpox by applying the juice of Brahmi with honey.
    • Crack heels: in case of cracked heel make a paste of  5gm Brahmi dry powder 30 gm with bee wax, 10ml jatyadi tail, and 10gm natural camphor, apply locally for few weeks gives promising results.
  7. Sleep-Disorder: mix 3 grams of Brahmi powder with a half-liter of cow’s raw milk then strain it. Now consume this mixture daily till one week. It will definitely help in retaining good sleep.
  8. Burning: mix 5 grams of Brahmi with coriander powder 
  9. Blood-pressure: Mix 5-10 one spoon of Brahmi juice with half spoon honey. Taking this mixture, normalize high blood pressure.
  10. Fever: mix 5-10 grams of Brahmi juice with 1-2 grams of mulethi powder. Taking It helps in fever.
